The Garforth Jazz Rock Band was formed in October of 2003 as part of the Garforth Community Arts School operated by, and based at, Garforth Community College in Garforth, East Leeds. The band was formed under the guidance of band leader Dave Evans and remains under his direction to this day. Since it's conception in 2003 GJRB has gone on to become the busiest, and one of the best, youth jazz ensembles in the United Kingdom. The band typically has an extremely busy gig diary, managing to maintain an average of one gig for every two weeks! We place a high emphasis on improvisation, but there is no pressure for people to solo. Every member of the band is extremely valuable to the whole, and even through the gig diary is busy we have enough players to cover - so there is no expectation to do every gig. Despite having more players than we need we always welcome new faces. You do not have to audition but as a guide you need to be approximately grade 7 to join - we will never ask for the certificate this is just a guide for you. |
