We run a rolling recruitment throughout the year. No matter when an applicant becomes interested in joining we are able to offer places within the band. This of course excludes the period over the school summer holidays where the band does not rehearse, if you apply during this period then you may not receive a response of be able to attend a trail rehearsal or two for several weeks. 

In short, no matter when you get to know about us - drop us an e-mail or give us a call and we will be able to advise you how you can get involved! 

GJRB does not have any strict entry criteria. As a general rule of thumb, based on the difficulty of the pieces that the band rehearses and performs and other similar factors, we generally expect that those wishing to enrol are reasonably competent musicians who are of an ability comparable to a grade 6/7 or higher.  We will not ask for any proof of formal qualifications, nor do we necessarily require potential members to have undertaken them.

Aside from technical ability all GJRB members must be enthusiastic about the music we play and the band in general and reliable. While it is not expected of any member to attend every live event it is important to make every effort to attend every rehearsal.

While we do not have any set procedure, excluding a few forms, applicants are usually invited to sit in on a rehearsal and join in with the band. During the session the band and band leader can get a feel for the applicants abilities and whether they will fit in with the band plus you get an opportunity to see what it would be like to play and rehearse with the band and find out whether you'd like it. Usually you would have an informal chat with the band leader which would ultimately decide where things go from there.
